Energy Modelling and Simulation for Decarbonisation
In 2025, the Chair has continued to apply the mathematical and optimisation models for Renewable Energy Communities (REC) developed in previous years. This year, the focus is on their practical application to specific case studies, both urban and agricultural.
The implementation of a solidarity REC in some pergolas in Parque del Oeste is being studied, with the aim of mitigating energy poverty in 46 vulnerable households. Scenarios have been configured that integrate photovoltaic generation and battery storage systems together with energy demand and electricity market prices. The aim is to evaluate different community configurations in order to identify the most cost-effective alternatives for social services and extract lessons applicable to the city as a whole.
In parallel, the model is also being applied to an irrigation community in the València orchard, with the aim of optimising the flexible use of irrigation pumps and reducing emissions associated with the agricultural sector. Following the first phase of mathematical modelling of flexible demand, progress will be made in the simulation and analysis of an agricultural CER based on real data.
In addition, two complementary projects on energy poverty have been promoted in collaboration with INGENIO-UPV. In a first phase in 2025, the energy vulnerability maps of Valencia have been updated and comparative indicators have been developed. Starting in September, an intersectional analysis of energy poverty will begin, with special attention to children and young people, and the design of participatory workshops.
Finally, support continues for the development of an Energy Saving Measures (ESM) calculation tool, in coordination with the Energy Office.
These advances reinforce the Chair’s capacity to apply advanced models to real cases, combining technical and social dimensions, and contributing to more effective and fair planning towards the decarbonisation of the city.
