Green Roof is a study of nature-based solutions, specifically green roofs in urban environments, to mitigate the advance of the carbon footprint, in this case, in the city of Valencia.
Green Roof
One of the main activities in this area is the analysis of existing literature to understand the potential of green roofs in cities like Valencia, as well as the benefits they could bring. In addition, a methodology was developed to identify and classify the roofs of buildings in the city as suitable or not for the installation of green roofs, considering relevant criteria.
This issue is not developed without several challenges, such as the inoperability of the height grid used in other studies due to its low resolution, which was completed by finding and using a higher resolution LiDAR grid. The difficulty in calculating the slope of the buildings due to discretisation errors and errors in the software algorithm was also addressed and resolved through the study of various indicators until a satisfactory solution was found.
According to the economic analysis of the feasibility of the project, which involved investigating experimental studies and using open data from the city of Valencia to estimate both the energy implications and the capture of greenhouse gases.
