To address this problem, a number of intervention strategies are proposed. Proposals include guaranteeing energy supply during the coldest months, implementing Social Emergency assistance for the most vulnerable households and carrying out specific energy audits in the homes with the greatest needs. These actions aim not only to alleviate the immediate effects of energy poverty, but also to prevent its persistence in the future.
In addition, we underline the importance of looking more broadly at the repercussions of fuel poverty, considering its impacts on people’s physical and mental health, on the household economy and on the environment. We also stress the need to raise public awareness of the importance of responsible energy consumption and propose to promote education in communities and neighbourhood associations to encourage sustainable and solidarity-based practices.
In summary, we advocate a collaborative and comprehensive approach to tackle Fuel Poverty in Valencia, highlighting the importance of cooperation between public and private entities and civil society to implement concrete measures to improve the living conditions of those affected and avoid the perpetuation of this problem in the future.
In the figures below we contrast the areas at risk of energy poverty between 2022 and 2023.
